I want to study Mass Communication, Zakiyyah tells her mum.
No,I would like you to go study English Language, her mum says.
Let her study Law,her dad suggests, she's good. She'll perform excellently.
A Peek into the Past….
Zakiyyah was a girl who had full potential.
She was a gifted child. Brilliance and intelligence were her nicknames. She performs well in her academics. Perhaps with encouragements from her parents, she performed excellently.
Her parents' encouragement kept her going all her years in junior secondary school, and now she's in senior secondary school, having found herself in the Art Department, that was her chosen field.
Everything about the humanity resonates with the her. Her parents couldn't detest.
Here, she made it to Art Department, and she's performing excellently. It was never seen as a wrong choice for her nor her parents.
Final laps in senior secondary school could be a lot for every student, and it could be a lot more for every student of Ota Total Academy, the school Zakiyyah attends.
It's a phase of deciding which path to thread;success or failure.
And for every student of the school, it's more of living up to the legacy and the motto upon which the school was built.
It has been nothing but excellence in the history of the school, and of course, one must rise to expectations from school, teachers and family.
The family who feels they've made a great choice to have chosen such a great school which would produce a great result and Teachers who feel they've taught students well to ace every exam.
Everyone forgets to acknowledge the effortsof the student who is drained from the expectations yet kept head high.
Zakiyyah felt this phase would be nothing but a trying time ,she had to start preparing for her external exams. WAEC, UTME, and NECO.
She had written GCE during her second year in senior school, and she came out trumps.
But the reminder of a better result made her put in so much effort.
UTME was the first external exam, which is a qualification to gain admission into the university.
It was a mixed feeling for her as she wrote her exams.
She was between fear and hope ,expecting her result.
UTME results are out. Send your pin to receive it via SMS was the alarm for the moment.
Zakiyyah checked her result, and upon seeing 273 over 300,she went to Sujood, thanking her Lord for crowning her effort.
Her Dad returned from work, and upon seeing the result,he did the same thing Zakiyyah did.
This could secure "Law," her dad says with satisfaction.
She finally completed her external exams ,acing everything, and she graduated with pride.
Admission In Progress
Zakiyyah chose Unilorin as her first choice ,while choosing LASU as second.
LASU admission was in progress.
Senators,Councillors, Vice Chancellor's lists were out.
Zakiyyah's uncle and grandfather were Politicians, they had their list already but Zakiyyah's name wasn't there.
Her mum was questioned, then the conclusion was made for Zakiyyah to change institution.
The change of institution would last for two weeks, it already seem late for her to be considered through the Politicians list.
The institution was changed and she waited to gain admission to study law, trusting her academic excellence.
Zakiyyah was finally admitted but not her course of choice.
You've been admitted provisionally to study Peace Studies .......the screen became blurry as tears filled her eyes.
What's Peace Studies?
What's it about, her mum was curious.
Her mum did her research to find out her daughter can't study the course.
Family and friends suggested for Zakiyyah to accept the course and maybe she could switch to her desired course the following year.
Look for other schools which their admission hasn't commence, her mum stated.
Meanwhile, UTME registration that year was closing, what she tried to avoid finally occurred.
PREPARING FOR ANOTHER UTME.
She cried as she prepared for registration.
In the midst of the preparation ,her mum gently said "Amidst this, don't be sad".
She smiled, hugging her mum.
Zakiyyah couldn't find any othe school ,all she found was LASU JUPEB programme which was still on,a programme which was like a chance for her secure Law and gain admission directly to second year in the university.
JUPEB or Diploma in law?
She finally resorted to JUPEB.
JUPEB Days started.......she went there at the end of their first semester, first in course had been done.
She juggled everything constantly remembering her father's assurance "You can do it".
There were tired and hopeful days but she kept going.
Just three courses ,they really took a toll on her.
Finally,Jupeb days were coming to an end.
Would she finally get the chance to study law?
She questions.
JUPEB results are out,go check out.
She was on her prayer mat when she finally checked it.
She had Distinction in two courses and a good.
She went straight to prostration, thanking her Lord for crowning her efforts.
Now it finally became clear that with this result, her chance to study law is very high.
Everyone had assured her,her result was screaming excellence.
Admission is out for Direct Entry student, a friend of hers who got a higher point than her and had gained admission to study informed her.
With joy,she checked the portal.
You have been gained admission provisionally to study ENGLISH LANGUAGE….
Zakiyyah became devastated........why ENGLISH? She questioned?
What went wrong?
Her parents couldn't accept that.....they called some dignitaries who could look into the situation.
Her mum paid a visit to the Assistant Vice Chancellor with the hope that it would be rectified.
It took days for Zakiyyah to finally accept that what Her Lord hasn't said "BE" to can never" BE" no matter how assuring it can be.
Please, let her accept that course. ENGLISH LANGUAGE is really a good course ......a lecturer suggested.
Everyone accepted it with fate, perhaps this is her calling. She has already been known for her poise accent and pronunciation skills,it could be a good course for her.
Her mum concluded;
Indeed,Allah is our Lord and we trust his plan.
They plan,Allah plans and Allah is the best of planners Q8 vs 30
The sun peeked through Zakiyyah's window, she was forced to bring herself to the present.
She had only reminisce how the journey to her course started.
It started with the conversation she had at the beginning with her parents on her course of study.
Perhaps her Lord had said "BE" to her mum's suggestion.
Alhamdulillah……a soul is grateful ,she whispers.
